Class Rules
Classroom Rules:
Negative Consequences:
Verbal Warning
Teacher redirects student’s negative behavior by acknowledging the behavior and helping student to turn behavior into a positive behavior.
Silent Lunch
If negative behavior continues, the student will be given silent lunch. The student will sit at the “silent lunch” table away from his/her peers.
Walking Laps
If negative behavior still persists, the student will be asked to walk laps at recess. The number of laps will be based on behaviors.
Parent Phone Call
If the negative behavior continues after the student has progressed through a warning, silent lunch, and walking recess, Ms. Kramer or Ms. Lancaster will call a parent or guardian to discuss the behavior.
Referral
Finally, after the phone call, the negative behavior is still happening, a referral will be written.
If at any time a student’s behavior is harmful in ANY way to themselves, another student, teacher, or staff member, the student will be automatically referred to the office.
Positive Rewards: Praise Treat jar
Ms. Kramer and Ms. Lancaster’s Procedures:
Students will be informed of all classroom procedures the first few days of school. These procedures include bathroom usage, where to turn in papers, homework routines, planner routines, and communication routines.
Students are not allowed to leave anything in their desks unless we tell them it is okay. If materials are left without permission, said materials will be subject to being thrown away. (We will not throw away any AR books, only papers). Our students share a desk and it is viewed as disrespectful to their desk mate if they do not keep their side clean.
Students will not be allowed to go back to their other classroom if they forgot anything needed for the other class, after we switch for the day. We feel that it is very distracting to the student sitting there, as well as for the other teacher.. Therefore, students must remember to take everything from their desk as they pack up for the day.
Homework:
Students may have homework Monday through Thursday (excluding major holidays). If homework is assigned, it should only take a few minutes on most days. Students may also have the opportunity to work on homework during class once we are finished with the day’s lesson. You can check our websites to see what the assignment was, and we will make sure that your child has copied his/her homework into the agenda. AGENDAS WILL NEED TO BE SIGNED AND DATED NIGHTLY BY A PARENT OR GUARDIAN. NO LATE HOMEWORK will be accepted (unless in case of absence). If you need to write us a note, feel free to write it in the planner, as we will check them each morning.
Weekly Communication Folders:
Communication folders will be sent home every Wednesday for graded work, A.R. progress, school communication, and other events. There is a place on the back of the folder for parent signatures, however, THERE WILL BE A FORM ATTACHED TO THE FOLDER. THIS FORM WILL NEED TO BE SIGNED, ALONG WITH ANY PAPER THAT HAS A GRADE FROM 60 AND BELOW, TO BE RETURNED TO THE SCHOOL THE NEXT DAY. These papers will be kept in a file to be used at a later date. Papers on the “Keep at home” side are to be taken out of the folder and left at home.
Making-Up Missed Work:
Work that should have been turned in on a day a student is absent is expected to be turned in the day the student returns. Work that was assigned during the absence is due in twice the number of days as the student has been absent. For instance, if a child is absent on a Monday and returns on Tuesday, the work assigned on Monday will be due Thursday (two days after returning). If a child is absent Monday and Tuesday and returns on Wednesday, the work assigned Monday and Tuesday will be due the next Tuesday (four days after returning). Students can find the missed work in the Make Up folder. We will assist them in getting the work together.
Bathroom Policy:
Students are to use the restroom as they come in the room in the morning. They may use the restroom one other time during their time in class.. If your child has a medical problem which requires him/her to use the restroom more often than usual, please send in a doctor’s note. If your child has an illness that will require extra bathroom trips for a limited time (i.e.: stomach bug, bladder infection), a parent/guardian note will be fine. It is for the safety of your child that we have this policy.
Snack and Water:
Students may keep a bottle of plain water at their desks. Please do not send in flavor packets for this water. We encourage students to bring a reusable bottle, with a closeable lid, that can stay at school during the week and go home to be washed each weekend. An individual-sized HEALTHY snack may be sent in each day to have during morning and afternoon snack time, but no drinks other than plain water will be allowed during this time. Other drinks can be taken to lunch. (We do not want any critters visiting us if we can help it!) Feel free to donate HEALTHY snacks so that all students can have a snack each day. We LOVE donations!
Prohibited Items:
Book bags will be allowed at students’ desks. Jackets and pullovers that meet PCS uniform requirements will be permitted at student desks.
Students should bring in money only when necessary. If you are sending in money, we encourage you to put it in an envelope. It should stay in the child’s pocket or book bag until it can be given to the appropriate person.
PLEASE READ VERY CAREFULLY:
Transportation Change: Teachers are not permitted to accept transportation change requests over the phone or via email during the instructional day. If you plan to pick up a child that normally rides the bus, or change the way your child gets home, you MUST send in a written note that is signed and dated. You may email or FAX, no later than 1:30pm, a signed request to the school stating specifically the change you are requesting by emailing the request to [email protected] or [email protected], or faxing it to (252) 355-0284. This is school policy and no exceptions will be made.
Food and Celebrations:
Parties: Our class is permitted to have a maximum of two parties during the school year. Both parties will take place after our scheduled lunch time and can last for no more than 45 minutes.
Birthdays: If you are interested in having a SMALL birthday celebration for your child during the school day, we ask that you inform us at least a week in advance, if possible. You are invited to eat lunch with your student on his/her special day, and/or provide store-bought goodies for the class during our scheduled snack time. It is school policy that snacks/goodies must be eaten in the classroom and NOT during lunch time. All food must be commercially prepared. Please keep in mind that we may have students with food allergies, so items must be approved before being given to students.
Car Riders: You will need your car rider number tag every day. If you do not have it, you will need to park in a designated parking space and walk into the office to pick up your child.
Picking students up early: Students may not be picked up after 2:15pm unless that student has a doctor’s appointment. If so, you will need to present a doctor’s note the following day.
